From now until the beginning of October 2020, Venus, the planetary symbol of love and relationship, will be transiting the zodiac sign of Leo.
Contrary to popular belief, Venus isn’t so much about love for others as it is about love for oneself. Because the fiery energy of Leo is naturally focused on gaining self-awareness through recognition from others, it’s especially rewarding to work with Venus when she is in the zodiac sign of Leo.
To gain a better understanding about this, consider the excellent book, The Sense of Zen, written by Eastern scholar DT Suzuki. In his book, Suzuki reminds us that in Zen Buddhism the 'ego' or 'self' can take many forms, the most potent of which is the infinite transcendental ego, which is often described as a circle without circumference. But the ego form through which we experience our everyday lives is necessarily more defined and confined; it is also purely relational. In other words, we experience ourselves in our manifest lives solely through our relationships.
Suzuki also reminds us that upon the awakening of sexual love, our relational ego takes its first step toward that infinite self. In other words, sexual love causes the ego to lose itself in its object of desire in doing so we first glimpse that which lies beyond; Little wonder that falling in love is such a magical, spiritually uplifting experience.
We do ourselves a favour to remember that our love affairs always say more about ourselves than it does about our lovers. It is also important to remember that in order to fully develop ourselves (i.e. our potentiality of ego form), we must fully engage with our love affairs, painful as that may often be. This is especially poignant that during the time that Venus is in Leo for in this placement, our romantic relationships, are likely to take a distinctly selfish tinge.
Contrary to popular belief, this is a good thing. It provides the perfect opportunity not only to learn about ourselves but also to take that first all- important evolutionary step towards spiritual transcendence.
